#TongueOutTuesday (18)
One week ago, I couldn’t imagine sitting here at my computer, writing a new blog post while Ravasz is sleeping at my feet. Many thoughts rushed through my head in dispear as Ravasz seemed sick on Wednesday morning. He didn’t want to eat, didn’t want to go outside. Even the boiled salmon and cottage cheese couldn’t convince him. When he did show some interest in the afternoon, we quickly had to run outside after only a few bites.
I thought about his cancer first, or perhaps the gallstone that might cause trouble, but luckily I got a message from our vet in Belgium with the suggestion of medication for his stomach. One I had at home so I could give it to Ravasz right away, the other one had to be ordered and would arrive on Saturday. I was upset, thinking that that would be too late, that he wouldn’t be here anymore on Saturday.
I boiled rice, didn’t left his side, cried and cuddled him but didn’t dare to hope.
But suddenly it was Saturday and after a few moody and rainy days, the sun was out again, Ravasz stole a package of tomatoes and wanted to go out in the garden to enjoy the sunlight.
It was like he said: ” Ok, I’m done with all the rice, I’m better, let’s find something tasty!”
As I’m not sure if this is over, I’m still careful and I know that we’re running out of time, but as long as Ravasz has the will to explore, to steal food, to sleep in the sun and to kiss us goodmorning, we will be right by his side.
While last week, we went out with hats and scraves, this weekend felt like spring really arrived. Out of nowhere flowers pop up, trees start to become green and even the field show color. Since the snow started to melt, the lake behind our garden rised so much that a part of our garden has water too (perfect to get that boat back to the lake!)- and it’s just perfect for our mud-loving pups. They loved helping is in the garden, chewing or stealing some sticks- and when we got a plastic (safer) toy, they took off with a burned piece of wood from a campfire.
Just before going back to the house for dinner, I noticed that Mogwai was licking her paws. I checked but couldn’t find anything but a bit of grass in between her toes. And once I removed it, she took off like a fresh rocket, so I thought it was fixed. On Sunday morning, however, when clipping the dogs’s nails, I noticed that this paw was swollen but again couldn’t see anything. I asked Joeri to hold her so I could have a better look. First, it seemed like there was a bit of mud in between her toes but it didn’t want to come off so I decided to cut away the hairs and then suddenly found this little wound- right in the middle between her paws. It was infected, so it wasn’t mud on the haird… I cleaned the wound every few hours that days and luckily by Monday morning it was all dry and clean.
The most frustrating part for Mogwai? Having to rest! She hates seeing us leave with Oona for a bike ride- and she looks so sad behind that kitchen window when she sees us returning all tired and happy. Poor pup!
