In between winter and spring
We’re longing for warmer days, for feeling the sunlight and eating ice cream.
But at the same time, this is such an incredible time for long hikes and exploring.
The cold days between winter and the start of a real spring, we love them! The snow on the lakes melts away, leaving beautiful textures. Flocks of loudly trumpeting cranes have arrived- the sound of the changing seasons! And no bugs in sight yet!
Off to explore!
If you look closely, there is some grass coming! It might get covered by snow a few times before summer, but there is no holding back!
I have no idea why there is suddenly this sign. It’s not like we have a non-bumpy road around here. Especially not in spring when the meltwater causes movement in soft soil everywhere. But it was fun to play with. I told Mo to “go hide” and I love how she isn’t fully aware of how much we can still see 🙂
The photo below isn’t sharp. It was already after sunset and we were losing light quickly. Still, it captured the essence of the moment and my dogs very well.
During the winter months, the lakes are covered in snow for most of the time, but now that it’s getting warmer, the beautiful textures of the ice are showing and I’m loving it!
Once the sun disappeared behind the tall trees, the cold breeze from the lake took over. “Time to go home”, it said, blowing bitter wind up our spine. It’s time for the sauna, blankets, and a good cup of tea, we agreed.
The dogs are wearing their warming Midlayer jacket (Hurtta, gifted), and Lizzie is layering her Skinny Dog Collective sweater underneath. The patches are from Scout’s Honour.
