My dogs are used to a lot when it comes to dog gear. Jackets, sweaters, photo accessories,… all fine.

…But boots…

We are lucky that boots are not a must-have in our area. We don’t have salt on the roads, sharp junk lying around, or hot asphalt. I’d say that 95% of the time, some paw wax protects the dog’s paws from ice or snow building up in between their toes. So far, only Lizzie had boots because she once hurt her paws on sharp ice (by spring, the snow often turns into ice crusts that can be sharp).
But recently we had an unexpected drop in temperature and all 3 of the dogs were struggling with sensitive paws or small pieces of ice building up which was very unusual. But we decided to get all of them new boots, just to be able to help them if it happens again.
With so many types of boots in different price ranges, it was hard to decide what to order. In the end, we ordered the Protector Bootie from Non-stop Dogwear. This looked like a nice all-rounder with its rubber coating and flexible material.

We were very pleased with our purchase, but the dogs,… well…

Suddenly they looked like the floor was sticky or they had joined the ministry of silly walks.
But once we were outside, they quickly forgot about these objects of despair. They ran, jumped in piles of snow, and had a great time.

We, two-legged creatures, kept a close eye on the status of the boots. It was as if we were reporting a soccer game. Oona lost one, Mo still has all 4 of them,… and now and then we had to search for the missing one. It was not a big issue, but the big snow piles or wild games in the deep parts of the snow were challenging for the boots.

It might be to our advantage that when it’s super cold or icy, they are less silly  🙂
Winter has just begun, so we will probably get many more chances to test these boots, and I’m sure that soon they won’t act as dramatic anymore.
