Mud-ventures
Spring arrives late here up north.
For a while, the changing seasons are just winter with more light, but slowly, as the snow disappears, the earth comes back to life. We’ll spot the first snowdrops and colorful crocuses, but in the next few weeks, there is still a chance of snow.
As everything slowly melts, you can hear the thick shelves of ice on the lake crack and pop, small creeks form everywhere and the rivers in between lakes are overflowing with rushing melting water from the mountains. This time of the year is often called ‘vårvinter’ (springwinter) and it is indeed a wonderful mix of seasons. One day we’re baking ‘croque-monsieur’ in the snow, the next day we can have rain or sunshine- so we have to be prepared for almost anything 🙂
Foolish April whims? No problem for these adventurous dogs! There is too much to explore to hide inside. Without the snow, Mogwai can collect pine cones again, and Oona keeps an eye on the birds that arrive from faraway territories. (Can you spot the geese in the picture above?)
Sunshine princess Lizzie still opts for layering a warm sweater with her Mudventure coat, but for Mogwai and Oona, just a bit of protection against the cold wind and rain is sufficient. And me? I’m going for bright yellow rainboots to encourage the colors to come out!
